Data tables

Sorting and column management in data tables

Data tables

The application's data tables — alarms, events, trend, comparisons — all behave the same way: you sort them by clicking the headers and customize them from the column sidebar. This page covers both.

Sorting

Sorting by one column

Click a column header to sort the table. Clicking the same header again cycles through three states:

  1. Ascending — arrow pointing up
  2. Descending — arrow pointing down
  3. No sorting — rows return to the original data order

Sorting by several columns

Hold Shift while clicking headers to sort by several columns at once, like an ORDER BY with multiple fields: the first column you pick is the primary criterion, the following ones break the ties.

A typical example on the alarms table: click Level to bring the most severe to the top, then Shift + click on Date to see the most recent first within each severity.

When more than one column is involved, each header shows a number next to the arrow indicating its position in the sequence: 1 is the primary criterion, 2 the first tie-breaker, and so on.

With Shift held, clicks cycle through the same three states: the third click removes that single column from the sort and leaves the others in place. The remaining columns are renumbered.

A click without Shift drops every other criterion and leaves only the clicked column standing — the quickest way back to a simple sort.

From the keyboard

Sorting is reachable without a mouse: move the focus to a header with Tab, then press Enter to sort and Shift + Enter to add the column to an existing sort.

Some columns cannot be sorted — typically those holding charts, inline roses or actions instead of a value. Clicking their header does nothing.
Sorting works on the column's underlying value, not on the displayed text: dates sort chronologically and numbers by magnitude, whatever their display format. CSV export also follows the active sort, multiple levels included.

Accessing the sidebar

Click the column icon button on the right edge of any table to open the sidebar. The sidebar opens with a smooth animation and can be closed by:

  • Clicking outside of it
  • Clicking the column icon button again

Show/hide columns

Check or uncheck columns in the list to control their visibility. Use the checkbox in the header to quickly show or hide all columns at once.

Pin columns

Click the pin icon next to a column to open a menu with three options:

  • Pin Left: Pins the column to the left side of the table
  • Pin Right: Pins the column to the right side of the table
  • Unpin: Removes the pin and returns the column to the center section (only visible for pinned columns)

Pinned columns remain fixed while scrolling horizontally through the table.

Change filter type

Click the filter icon next to a column to change its filter type. Available options:

  • Text: Free text search with contains, equals, starts with, ends with options
  • Number: Numeric filters with equals, greater than, less than options
  • Date: Date range filters
  • List: Multi-select filter showing all unique values in the column
  • No filter: Disables filtering for the column

The default filter type (defined by the table) is indicated with "(default)" in the menu.

When you change a filter type, any existing filter on that column is automatically cleared.

Search columns

Use the search field at the top of the sidebar to quickly find a specific column by name. The list filters in real-time as you type.

Reorder columns

Drag and drop columns within the sidebar list to change their order in the table.

Columns can only be reordered within their own section. For example, a left-pinned column can only be moved among other left-pinned columns. To move a column to a different section, first change its pin state using the pin menu.

When columns are pinned, the sidebar organizes them into three sections:

  • Pin Left: Columns pinned to the left side of the table
  • Columns: Unpinned columns in the center (scrollable area)
  • Pin Right: Columns pinned to the right side of the table

Reset columns

When you modify the column configuration (order, visibility, pin state, or filter type), the Reset columns button appears at the bottom of the sidebar. Clicking it restores the table to its original configuration.

Persistence

All column preferences are automatically saved in your browser and restored on your next visit:

  • Column order
  • Column visibility
  • Column widths
  • Pin states
  • Filter types
You can also reorder columns by dragging the column headers directly in the table, without opening the sidebar.
